Land Conservation
El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve is an enormous area (119,177 ha; buffer zone - 93,458 and core zone – 25, 763 ha) whose conservation depends both on the agencies working in the area and its inhabitants.
Fortunately, since 2004, different conservation mechanisms are increasingly being used by land owners in the region because they provide certain advantages such as the legal confirmation of the conservation actions that they have been applying on their properties for some time, the legal security of those properties and the marketing benefits of those engaged in coffee production activities.
We have identified priority conservation areas with the intention to extend the ecological corridor into the core areas of the Reserve. Until late 2007, 5,768 ha were protected.
The development of management plans guides conservation actions of the owners and the establishment of a system of direct and indirect incentives that allow to expand the Reserve. In the same way, they set the basis for the establishment of a network of owners. This network will be the space through which owners will have a voice at the regional level, it will allow the exchange of experiences and it will facilitate the managing to achieve effective conservation.
