Environmental Services

The capture and sale of carbon credits are economic activities that begin to provide high financial returns in the modern world, as socially responsible companies are increasingly concerned for the environment and try to compensate for the damage they cause with their production systems.

Being El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve one of the areas with highest density of vegetation in Mexico, this Reserve is optimal for implementing programs of Payment for Environmental Services of carbon capture, which is the amount of carbon stored by different systems of vegetation in the area. This, in addition to promoting the conservation and restoration of the area is associated to the economic benefits of the activities of farmers and ejidatarios.

The creation of this voluntary mechanism aims to be a support to producers so they can increase their income at the same time that encourages them to perform the activities required in this strategy. All these actions as a way to improve life conditions in their communities and reap greater benefits in the long term. And on top of that, this support could compensate, to some extent, the production constraints faced by these people for living inside a protected area.
