Surveillance
Taking care of the Reserve and avoid environmentally illicit activities is a monumental task if you consider the vast size of the area and the rugged and diverse landscape.
However, the staff of the Reserve does not lessen efforts and they apply the Protection, Inspection and Surveillance Program aimed at preventing forest fires and protecting forest health and ecosystem vulnerability.
The Reserve rangers conduct tours in 27 critical paths in the five core areas to verify that no illegal activities are carried out. They also accomplish 290 trips on established trails of core zones I El Triunfo and III Cuxtepec, in which campsites are equipped with kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms and rest area. The other core areas (II, IV, and V) and the buffer zone are also under inspection and supervision by the Reserve’s ranger staff throughout the year.
The guards are there to: identify environmentally illegal activities, support PROFEPA in the verification of illegal acts, clean trails, camping areas and infrastructure, and support visitors, researchers and Reserve’s staff, among others.
Thanks to the presence of park rangers, residents of the ejidos are now more aware of their surroundings; they know the environmental regulations and refrain from committing environmental illegal activities.
